Abstract

Communities play a central role in the intergenerational transmission of culture by serving as living spaces where knowledge, values, beliefs, and practices are continuously shared and renewed. Cultural transmission does not occur solely through formal institutions but is deeply embedded in everyday social interactions, rituals, oral traditions, and collective activities within families and local communities. This study examines how communities function as custodians of cultural memory, enabling younger generations to internalize cultural meanings through participation, observation, and practice. It explores the mechanisms of intergenerational transmission, including storytelling, festivals, customary practices, language use, and apprenticeship-based learning. The paper also considers the challenges faced by communities in sustaining cultural transmission amid globalization, migration, and changing socio-economic conditions. By emphasizing community agency and participation, the study highlights the importance of inclusive, locally grounded approaches to safeguarding cultural heritage and ensuring cultural continuity in a rapidly changing world.

Abstract in Hindi Language:संस्कृति के अंतरपीढ़ी हस्तांतरण में समुदायों की भूमिका अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है, क्योंकि वे ऐसे जीवंत सामाजिक स्थल होते हैं जहाँ ज्ञान, मूल्य, विश्वास और व्यवहार निरंतर साझा किए जाते हैं और पुनर्नवीनीकृत होते रहते हैं। सांस्कृतिक हस्तांतरण केवल औपचारिक संस्थानों के माध्यम से ही नहीं होता, बल्कि यह परिवारों और स्थानीय समुदायों के भीतर दैनिक सामाजिक अंतःक्रियाओं, अनुष्ठानों, मौखिक परंपराओं और सामूहिक गतिविधियों में गहराई से निहित होता है। यह अध्ययन इस बात का विश्लेषण करता है कि समुदाय सांस्कृतिक स्मृति के संरक्षक के रूप में कैसे कार्य करते हैं और किस प्रकार भागीदारी, अवलोकन तथा व्यवहार के माध्यम से युवा पीढ़ी सांस्कृतिक अर्थों को आत्मसात करती है। इसमें कथा-वाचन, उत्सव, प्रथागत व्यवहार, भाषा-प्रयोग और शागिर्दी आधारित शिक्षण जैसी अंतरपीढ़ी हस्तांतरण की प्रक्रियाओं का अध्ययन किया गया है। साथ ही, वैश्वीकरण, प्रवासन और बदलती सामाजिक-आर्थिक परिस्थितियों के संदर्भ में सांस्कृतिक हस्तांतरण को बनाए रखने में समुदायों के समक्ष आने वाली चुनौतियों पर भी विचार किया गया है। समुदाय की सक्रिय भूमिका और सहभागिता पर बल देते हुए, यह अध्ययन सांस्कृतिक विरासत के संरक्षण और तीव्र परिवर्तनशील विश्व में सांस्कृतिक निरंतरता सुनिश्चित करने के लिए समावेशी और स्थानीय रूप से आधारित दृष्टिकोणों के महत्व को रेखांकित करता है।
